Crossed Lines (God uses technology) - by Jill Ayerst

In 1983 Peter and I were in Knysna to help start a fellowship of people from various denominations who had experienced the Holy Spirit and wanted to move into a deeper place with God.

Also in Knysna at the time were Clive and Glenis Harding (the older generation will remember 4 Jacks and a Jill). Well, 2 of the Jacks and the Jill were in Sedgefield, where we also found a place to stay. The reason for the Harding’s move from Johannesburg was twofold, firstly to escape the rat race and secondly Glenis was joining up with a spiritist circle. However, God had other plans and they both met the Lord and got radically saved. They were so hungry. This is when we met them. We became really good friends and they were a strong support to us as the new kids in the area.

Our first worship team was blessed to have the 2 Jacks and a Jill as part of the team. Glenis moved easily into worship and prophesy. Sometimes, we would walk in the forest around their home and she would sing praises loudly to the Lord. Clive had also set up a recording studio in the forest. Life was both exciting and tough and we faced many giants together.

It was a sad day when we left Sedgefield to return to PE and had to say goodbye to our special friends. Glen and I spoke often on the phone and I was blessed with her song and prophetic word which she spontaneously shared with me.

It was such a phone call that got me out of the bath one morning. I can remember running to answer the ringing phone with a towel around me, water dripping on the carpet. It was Glen – and did we talk about the things of the Lord! She sang, we prayed together, she gave me words of encouragement and we talked about the revelation the Holy Spirit was giving us in the Word. Thirty minutes later we were still talking.

Suddenly, a male voice interrupted our conversation.

“Excuse me ladies, I have tried three times to dial a certain number and my line keeps cutting into your conversation. I hope you don’t mind, but I have been listening to you. My name is Paul, I am a Full Gospel Pastor in Namibia and I desperately need the Holy Spirit to work in my life. Please will you pray for me”.

After we had got over the initial shock and wonder of God’s love and concern for our heart’s cries, we then held a three-way time of prayer. We prayed with Paul that the fires would be rekindled in his life and God would give him fresh vision and purpose.

Needless to say, we had very little to say after that encounter except to glorify our Father who could take a simple telephone call and use it to meet a cry from one of His children. God certainly makes a way where there is no way. He always has a greater and better plan.
